How Much Does EV Charger Installation Cost in Colorado?

A BES-installed Level 2 EV charger on a residential garage wall

Installing a Level 2 charger at home is the single best upgrade for living with an EV. The cost varies more than people expect, so here is what actually drives the price for a Colorado home.

Typical price range

Most home Level 2 charger installations run from about $500 to $2,200, installed. A charger mounted right next to an electrical panel with spare capacity sits at the low end. A long conduit run across the house, a panel that is full, or a needed service upgrade pushes it higher.

What drives the cost

  • Distance from the panel. The farther the charger is from the panel, the more wire and conduit the job needs.
  • Panel capacity. Many 200 amp panels handle a charger easily. Older 100 amp panels may need a load-management device or an upgrade.
  • The charger itself. Tesla Wall Connector, ChargePoint, Wallbox, and others range in price and features.
  • Permit and inspection. A Level 2 install requires a permit and inspection in Colorado, which a licensed contractor handles for you.

Rebates that lower the price

Xcel Energy offers a residential EV charger rebate, Colorado has a state EV equipment rebate, and the federal Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit covers 30% of the cost up to $1,000. A good installer files the paperwork on qualifying jobs.

Do it once, do it right

A proper install includes a load calculation so your charger does not trip the panel, plus the permit and inspection that protect your insurance. See our EV charger installation service or call (303) 699-1417 for a free in-home load check.
